Guided Tours

See the Opera House as it is today, and imagine how it looked in 1879. Mining magnate Horace Tabor built this elaborate opera house to bring arts, culture, and civilization to a rough, remote mining town.

Tour the Tabor Suites and find historic treasures in the refreshed Tabor Second Story Museum. Learn the history of this grand dame of the west. The history of the Tabor Opera House parallels the history of Leadville and of our nation with many famous visitors who have passed through its doors.

Roam the elegant performance hall with its original red velvet Andrews opera chairs. See the stage where John Philip Sousa and Oscar Wilde appeared and magician Harry Houdini vanished.

Private Tours

Private tours are available on a limited basis by appointment only. These tours are similar to our regular guided tours but can also be tailored to your interest. $40 per person or $100 per group of 4. To schedule or for more questions, please email our tour manager at helen@taboroperahouse.org or call 719-486-8409.

I saw a really cool live music show before covid 19 and I had a blast. Not only was the music great but the history and architecture of the Tabor made the ambiance even better! If you get a chance to get out to Leadville Colorado, I highly recommend checking this piece of history out!

Much more interesting on the inside than the view from the outside would have you believe. A great tour although too rushed as so much to take in. A beautiful theatre – would love to see a show there.

Common Questions

We love history buffs of all ages and welcome children on our tours. Portions of the Opera House are a museum, so we ask that parents keep a close eye on little ones, but kids love seeing the inside of this historic building as much as their parents!

A few pieces are on display on the Tabor’s stage. The drop curtains and sets date back to 1879, and they are covered to preserve them. Our team is hard at work to develop a long-term plan for the historic stage scenery, now that this amazing discovery has been made.

Tours are usually open from Memorial Day weekend through late September. Please check our Tours page for the current schedule.

An ADA accessible entry to the auditorium is located on the opera house’s South side, giving access to events and part of the tour. The gift shop on Harrison Ave. and the first-floor storefront room are ADA accessible.

Unfortunately, the upper floors are not Americans with Disabilities Act accessible until we are further along in our rehabilitation efforts.

Our Spanish tour times are currently impacted due to staffing shortages. If you are interested in taking a Spanish tour, please call the Tabor Opera House to ensure we will be offering a Spanish Tour at 719-486-8409.

Yes! We are working to keep the doors open as much as possible during the renovation.
