SUMMARY:Bravo! Vail presents Ivalas Quartet and Friends II
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating BIPOC voices in Classical Music\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHailed by The Strad for playing with “tremendous heart and beauty\,” the Ivalas Quartet has been changing the face of classical music since its inception in 2017 with a mission to enrich the classical music world by spotlighting past and present BIPOC composers alongside the standard repertory. Among the many composers whose works they have championed are Eleanor Alberga\, Gabriela Lena Frank\, Osvaldo Golijov\, Jessie Montgomery\, Angélica Negrón\, Iván Enrique Rodríguez\, Carlos Simon\, Alvin Singleton\, and George Walker. They premiered Derrick Skye’s Deliverance through a commission from Caramoor in 2024. \n\n\n\nThe Ivalas Quartet served as the Graduate Resident String Quartet at The Juilliard School from 2022 to 2024\, where they studied with the Juilliard String Quartet. They were previously in residence at the University of Colorado-Boulder under the mentorship of the Takács Quartet. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAll AgesDoors at 1:30 PMFree – Please register on the Bravo! SUMMARY:Vail Valley Band with Cowboy Poet Jake Riley
DESCRIPTION:The renowned Vail Valley Band will be the featured act at Leadville’s famed Tabor Opera House on September 2\, 2023\, at 7:00 pm. Don Watson\, Beth Swearingen\, and Peter Fontanese are a talented team of creative musicians who have been performing together since 1995. They have performed all over the nation as well as the world.  \n\n\n\nThe band members pride themselves on their technical abilities\, musical versatility\, and their uncanny knack of matching their song choices to their audiences\, from Country\, Classic Rock\, Pop\, Jazz\, Folk\, show tunes\, and even classical. \n\n\n\nJake grew up as a cowboy kid\, right here in the Upper Arkansas Valley. He first encountered the art of cowboy poetry by attending Michael Martin Murphy’s WestFest in Copper Mountain with his dad. It was there that he witnessed the art of performed poetry by Baxter Black and Waddie Mitchell and fell in love with the medium. He had always loved a good rhyme and began writing some on his own. Jake has performed his work in 11 states\, including three times at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko\, Nevada. Jake’s work is probably best described as “cowboy contemporary\,” but collides with the non-western realm as often as not. Jake has come to love the performance aspect of the spoken word and sharing a good story with his audience. His work is often humorous\, sometimes thought-provoking\, and always from the heart.

DESCRIPTION:Music & Lyrics by WILLIAM FINN\n\n\n\nBook by RACHEL SHEINKIN\n\n\n\nConceived by REBECCA FELDMAN\n\n\n\n\nJoin an all-local cast as they return to their roots as high school spellers! \n\n\n\nWinner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book\, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced\, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn\, this bee is one unforgettable experience. \n\n\n\nAn eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. Directed by CW2 Russ Massey and SFC Nathaniel Johnson\, the concert band can frequently be found performing in a wide variety of venues\, from historic sites like the Tabor Opera House in Leadville to modern performing arts facilities like the Lakewood Cultural Arts Center. This ensemble’s biggest asset is its musical versatility. Recently\, the concert band was the featured ensemble at the Colorado National Guard’s 150th Anniversary Concert in Denver. \n\n\n\nArtistic Director Scott Carroll says\, “This concert always brings so much joy to people. It is important to celebrate and remember our Veterans. There’s no better way to do that than through an evening of music with the 101st Army Band.”
